Singing for our Supper: Walking an English Songline from Kent to Cornwall’.

This is the true tale of how my friend Ed and I went for a walk and accidentally became almost-famous singers.

One Autumn afternoon, we stepped out with overfilled backpacks, empty wallets, and a shared dream of ancient freedom. When we set off, singing was no part of my life. But our seven month journey from Kent to Cornwall was hijacked by traditional British songs, whose unreasonable power unlocked landscapes, won us friends, thwarted dark forces, filled our cookpot and guided our path.

We soon found that wandering minstrels are more wished-for and welcome in twenty-first century Engand than even Ed’s Tolkeinest dreams imagined possible.

And so the good old songs led us on their merry way…

Praise for Will and Ed’s journey:

“A story that needs to be kept alive, both in word and song” (BBC 1)

“Ultimately beneficial for the country at large” (The Guardian)

“A small, but noticeable, magic has been spun” (The Telegraph)

“Trying to revive the Medieval art of the travelling singer” (BBC World Service)

“A pure injection of energy” (Clare Balding, Radio 4)

I’m very pleased to announce my new book:

It has taken me 15 years to write. I hope it is worth the wait.

My sincere thanks to everyone who supported this journey.

I hope to see you on the path. Walk well.
